Our Tea Garden near Kandy, Sri Lanka
Delicate Buds teas are grown and handmade in one place: our family tea garden in Menikdiwela, in the Kandy District of Sri Lanka's Central Province, beneath the Alagalla mountain range.
A traditional garden below the Alagalla range
Our traditional tea garden covers around 20 acres (8 hectares). Being so close to the Alagalla mountains creates a micro-climate that is especially well suited to handmade specialty teas.
The garden has been in the family for generations. Proprietor Arjuna Panamaldeniya grew up on this land before spending 25 years in Switzerland, then came home to build Delicate Buds.
From tea field to tea cup
We source raw material only from our own plantation, so every Delicate Buds tea is single-origin and unblended. Production is overseen by Denham Vedamuttu, a tea professional with more than 30 years of experience who previously served as Deputy General Manager of a reputed tea company.
We are a Sri Lanka Tea Board approved company (Reg. No. HT0014) and are currently converting the garden to organic production.
Supporting our community
We employ and empower workers from the surrounding hamlets and buy services locally to support the village economy around Menikdiwela.
